Be the reason someone rides today
Volunteers are the heartbeat of COPS Barn. The time you set aside is truly special—
it helps create a safe, consistent program where riders grow, one ride at a time.

Why volunteers matter here
Therapeutic riding isn’t a “drop-off and go” activity. It’s a carefully supported experience—especially for riders who rely on routine, clear structure, and calm energy.
A steady presence
Familiar faces help every rider arrive feeling seen, safe, and ready.
Care that adds up
From grooming to guiding, the small things make every session possible.
Growth worth sharing
Your encouragement gives riders the confidence to keep going.
Ways to volunteer
Sidewalker
Walk alongside riders during lessons, offering calm support and encouragement.
Horse leader
Lead one of our therapy horses with care, confidence, and close guidance from the team.
Barn support
Help with grooming, preparing equipment, and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the barn moving.
What to expect
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. We’ll train you, introduce you to the team, and make sure you feel confident in your role.
Most volunteers begin with an orientation, shadow a session, and then grow into a regular schedule that works for them.
Volunteer requirements
A willingness to learn matters more than prior horse experience. We ask every volunteer to bring a thoughtful, safety-first approach.
Age and readiness
Volunteers should be 14 or older and ready to participate in active, hands-on sessions.
Reliable commitment
Riders benefit most when they can count on a regular volunteer team.
Safety orientation
Complete orientation and follow the guidance of instructors during every session.
Barn-ready attire
Wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that lets you move comfortably around the barn.
