Sensory Trail

OFFERING THE FIRST Sensory Trail Integration Therapy Program in ROCKLAND COUNTY!

Students have the opportunity to participate on horseback in a "sensory trail" which includes an element of educational tasks and spatial awareness and identity. Our sensory trail system, located in a beautiful serene location by the stable, allows the horse and rider to navigate the peaceful, shady pathways that wind their way around the wooded fringe of the property. We have designed our trail to provide visual, auditory, and tactile stimulation.

Sensory Trail 1It immerses our riders in a completely different environment than a traditional riding ring. These two contrasting venues allow our instructors to customize lessons even further.

Trail Riding is an Exciting Experience!
Our trail is a very unique and refreshing adventure. It challenges the cognitive thinking and physical capabilities of our student riders.

Along the trail, accessible by horseback, are multiple sensory stations that feature activities that encourage our riders to explore, touch, pick and interact with objects. A mailbox with surprises inside, signs, tree faces, musical chime station, pails with hands-on objects in them, aromatherapy station consisting of herbs to smell, and an object permanence station are just some activities along the way.

Sensory Trail 2Participants observe the circle of life from beginning to end through the care of plants and animals. For our un-mounted riders, outdoor sensory activity included building fairy houses along the trail using things from nature that were left behind.

Sensory Trail 3Other areas of the trail are designed to be quiet and relaxing where emphasis is on using a combination of sensory qualities to create a comfortable and calming environment. The lightly foliaged trees shelter and protect riders from wind, and provide coolness on hot sunny days.

Our trail helps those who are greatly affected by changes in temperature from wind, cold and sun. It also protects riders with glare sensitivity.
